Being informed about the artist, design, and studio space can give you reassurance when inquiring about a tattoo. We’d recommend doing lot’s of research about tattoo studios, messaging artists and gathering reference images for your desired piece. Getting a tattoo is supposed to be an exciting experience, a good artist should be able to answer any questions you may have.
If you’re unsure about anything related to the tattoo process, most artists would be happy to do a consultation. Here you can discuss references, size, budget, sizing, and placement. This will help build a relationship with your artist, and ensure your vision is understood.

Once all that is sorted, you can book your appointment! Here are a few more tips to help you prep for your tattoo:
Eat a meal before getting tattooed, and bring snacks and water!
Leave your day open— tattoos can take time and you don’t want to rush the process.
Ask questions! A good artist will make you feel comfortable and safe to do so.
Advocate for yourself. Move that stencil a million times if needed. Ask for breaks if you’re in pain. You’re in the drivers seat!

It’s important to remember that you are in control during the tattoo process. Always stop the service if you feel uncomfortable or unsure.
After finishing the tattoo, your artist will go over aftercare with you. Pro Tip: ask your artist to provide an aftercare sheet, it is a great way to stay on top of healing without having to remember all those steps.
We wish you luck on your tattoo journey! We will be here when you decide to take the leap on that first tattoo.
